Solidarity with the People of Ukraine

The IB was founded more than 70 years ago. One important goal of its founders is to promote international understanding and to contribute to a peaceful coexistence in Europe. Accordingly, the IB strongly condemns Russia's invasion of Ukraine and expresses its solidarity with the people of the country.

"We will do everything we can to support our partners in Ukraine and prevent a humanitarian catastrophe. We offer our help to the people on the ground and are also preparing with our affiliates in Poland and in Germany to support people on the run," said Petra Merkel, President of the Internationaler Bund. "Within the framework of our national and international networks in the field of development cooperation, among others, such as VENRO, we will actively participate in order to alleviate the suffering of the people in Ukraine, which is now beginning," Petra Merkel continued.

The IB has been active in Ukraine for more than 30 years and works there with various partner organizations in the field of voluntary services, aid for people with disabilities and also supports the special aid program for eastern Ukraine on behalf of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). The aim of the project is to improve the provision of health and social services in the government-controlled areas of Donetsk and Luhansk. Furthermore, the IB also cooperates with its partners in the placement of volunteers from Ukraine.

In order to better support the people in the country and refugees, the IB is asking for donations under the keyword "Ukraine Aid".
