Promoting Decent Employment in Egypt

The Internationaler Bund (IB) has started a new project in Egypt at the end of 2022 to promote the employability of Egyptian youth and adults and to improve the sustainability of selected enterprises. The 3-year project is part of the special initiative "Good Employment for Socially Just Change" (https://www.bmz.de/de/themen/sonderinitiative-gute-beschaeftigung-sozial-gerechter-wandel) of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and is supported by Sequa gGmbH. The German project partner is the IHK-Projektgesellschaft mbH Ostbrandenburg, while partners in Egypt are the Alexandria Business Association (ABA) and the Sadat City Investors Association (SCIA).

The project supports the partners in their capacity development through long-term and short-term consultancy assignments. This includes the provision of training in employment-relevant technological trends, training of vocational counsellors and vocational school teachers, and measures to include women and people with special needs. In addition, there is the strengthening of partnerships with start-up institutions and incubators as well as the training of incubation pilots for improved advisory skills for start-ups.

With this project, the IB is continuing its long-standing cooperation with Egypt in the field of vocational training. In the past, the IB has already provided further training to more than 1,000 managers, teachers and trainers from organisations and companies in the Egyptian dual training system, among others on behalf of GIZ. With this project, the IB is also making important contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations Agenda 2030. These include in particular contributions to ending poverty in all its forms and in all places (Goal 1), promoting full and productive employment and decent work for all (Goal 8) and education for all (Goal 4). As the project targets young men and women equally and includes explicit measures to promote women, it also contributes to gender equality (Goal 5).
