Like Europe, China is facing major challenges from demographic changes. The requirements in the area of care for the elderly have increased not only quantitatively, but also qualitatively. Higher life expectancy is leading to an increase in age-related diseases such as dementia, Parkinson's disease, stroke, etc.; the need for highly qualified nursing staff is high. In order to further develop its own health care system in the field of nursing, the Internationaler Bund (IB) in China, together with the IB Hochschule für Gesundheit und Soziales and the Chongqing City Management College (CCMC), have developed a training course in gerontological services and management adapted for the Chinese health care system.
The training course started in the winter semester 2020/21 and the first 24 students have enrolled. As soon as the developments of the Corona pandemic allow it, the first lecturers from IB Hochschule will start face-to-face teaching in spring 2021.
"Training highly qualified caregivers is an important task to meet the demands of increasing life expectancy and the need for skilled workers in Asia and Europe. It is a societal task of the IB to support people in old age," explains Karola Becker, member of the IB Executive Board.
